to dubai...

...or not to dubai.

i have an oppurtunity to visit some family in dubai. frankly, i'm a little freaked out by the prospect.

what do you know about dubai that will make me feel better?

no seriously, i'm starting a list.
first on the list of why i should feel good about going to dubai is this:

my family is in dubai (and no longer in beirut)

(sigh....)

I've been to Dubai. It's nice. My friend's friend goes there to see his sister who moved their with her boyfriend and he goes as a vacation. I saw it and it was nice. It's something to experience. I would go. Maybe if I go back, I'll take you and Steve with me. ;)

lj tell her about when you went

Ok Steve.

It was dark and scarey. Although the sun was out, I felt a chill. I walked along the streets and saw nothing but men sitting on the sides stareing hard at me. I had a scarf on and thought I would blend in, but I looked like a New Yorker and my scarf was on wrong. I gave them a dirty look, they were surprised. I told them that they needed to stop making their women walk behind them and that they all needed a beating. Then I walked into a room full of black sheets. No, they were women. I could not find the woman I was talking to earlier, so I got frustrated. I then started to teach them my karate chop moves and said that the man should walk behind them and that if they ever picked their hands up to him them, that they should go straight for their balls.

At the end and on my way to the airport, all the women of Dubai were following me, chanting my name, "LJ, LJ, LJ!" And I turned around and said, "If there's no ring on your finger, what do you say?"

And they all said all at once, "I don't see a ring on my finger, you don't own me!" "YES!" I said and boarded my plane. The love I got was overwhelming. I still can't get over it.

Am I the only one noticed that you said your family is no longer in Beirut? Harsh.

Dubaidavid could tell you more, he's on my friend's list.

This site is really popular with my gypsy homies.
Let us know how it goes.

thanks for all your input, folks.
zilz, i just got the article in my inbox, it'll be read when i get home from work
pax, yeah, harsh. some of them are us citizens and they've been anticipating unrest for a while, so most of them were out in time. thanks for the heads up. i think i'm gonna go add dubaidavid.
lj, lj, Lj, LJ. LJ! LJ! LJ! i want to go someplace that i have to be covered up. less leering shmarmsters. and more sweat.
lj: 07/27/2006 10:25 AM
Yeah, sweat is good.

I vote for Dubai! Then again, I always vote in favor of travel, no matter the destination. In this case, I think it would be beneficial to see an Arab country with one's own eyes on its own terms, unclouded by the fog of the American media; and one with a high per capita income no less. In 2008 they're going to take the skyscraper world record away from Taipei, and I doubt any Western or Asian country will have the practical or economical means to take it back. The Burj Dubai may become the Empire State Building of the 21st century. Skyscraper geekiness aside, I think that's kind of exciting.
